Currently there are a lot more consumers that are looking for ways to save money on the luxuries since the necessities in different areas seem to keep rising in costs. A great way to save on makeup, is to find products that can be used in multiple ways. Makeup companies seem to be catching on to this and you might be noticing that there are more of these types of products. 
Personally, I think Danessa Myricks Colorfix is a great product! It is a versatile, multi-use color that can be used on the lips, eyes, and face. The formula is highly pigmented, lasts for 24 hours, and easy to blend. Plus, it comes in a wide range of colors. I have always swore by Danessa Myricks' products and I also have many of her products in my pro-kit. I use them for modeling photoshoots, events, and weddings on my clients and they also enjoy that her products are comfortable to wear and long lasting.

One thing that I definitely feel is worth mentioning about Danessa Myricks Colorfix, is that a little goes a long way. Colorfix comes in mattes, metallics, foils, glazes, and pastels. The history of makeup goes back 5000+ years to Ancient Egypt. Throughout the centuries, makeup has become a rich part of many cultures around the world for purposes such as ceremonies, status, power, beauty, and theatrics. In the 18th century, makeup came to America and in addition to ceremonies, status, power, theatrics, and beauty; makeup also gave people confidence, a voice, and opened doors to creativity. 
If you love learning about the history of makeup or even taking a walk down Memory Lane as I do, let me share with you, three of my favorite vintage makeup vloggers.

1. Lisa Eldridge: Lisa has her own beautiful makeup line and is the author of the book "Facepaint- The Story Of Makeup" The video that I linked below is the first of hers that I watched and it had me hooked. In this video, she shows a historical makeup piece from China that is 1,000 years old and other amazing pieces in her collection! 

2. Erin Parsons: Erin is Maybelline's Global Makeup Artist. She has been in the fashion and beauty industry for over 20 years, has worked with multiple supermodels, and has had her work featured on multiple magazine covers. You can find Erin on TikTok and Instagram where she has tons of entertaining short videos recreating the looks of glamourous icons and experimenting with makeup recipes from different historical time periods. In addition to her many accomplishments, she has a super fun vintage makeup collection which she turned into an amazing makeup museum! 

3. Laura Jane Atelier: Laura is a full time blogger who is passionate about vintage fashion. Laura also makes small batch perfumes and owns Vintage Doll Cosmetics. She has good videos that are broken down by topics such as specific decades, vintage makeup techniques, vintage glam icons, vintage fashion, and more! She has a very extensive collection of vintage makeup, perfumes, and fashion.

Makeup brushes develop a lot of dirt and bacteria as we use them.  To keep our skin clean and healthy, it is very important to make sure to keep your makeup brushes and other tools clean as well.  By keeping your brushes clean and cared for, it also helps your quality brushes last much longer. 
How often you need to clean your makeup brushes does depend on factors such as:
- Do you apply makeup daily? 
- Do you apply a heavy amount of makeup for each application? 

A good rule of thumb with regular use of brushes even if it is a few days a week, is to clean them once per week for creams and liquids. For powders, you can get away with once every 2 weeks unless you use highly pigmented and bold colors also if you change colors up often. This prevents the bold colors from getting muddied up and keeps the look clean. 

Always wipe the brushes in between uses to get extra residue off. You can use a dry color removal sponge, paper towel, lint free cloth, etc.

If you do makeup on clients or anyone other than yourself using your brushes, make sure to clean them after each use. 

Here are the steps to cleaning your makeup brushes:

1. First, wet the hairs under the faucet using warm water with the brush hairs pointing downward – this will help prevent any water from staying in the ferrule (metal part) or handle part of the brushes. Be sure the water is not too hot because it can melt the glue that keep the brush together. If the water is too cold, then it can harden the residue in the brush and it will be hard to remove. 

2. Use a makeup brush specific soap (such as Beauty Blender or Sigma) or a mild shampoo (baby shampoo).  Squirt a little soap on your fingers and apply it to the hairs from ferrule (base) to tip. Gently squeeze the hairs from ferrule to hair tips over and over while adding a little water at a time. Rinse and repeat until the water runs clear. When rinsing, make sure you keep the brush hairs pointing downward.

3. After you have cleaned your brush, gently brush them on a clean paper towel or a lint free cloth and lay them to air dry on their side on a towel or on a brush drying rack hanging face down. Never let brushes dry with brush hairs up in a brush holder. The water can run down into the ferrule and over time will break down the glue holding the brush together. At this point, it’s a good idea to reshape the brush to prevent splaying. 

4. Let brushes dry completely before using. Dry time will vary, depending on size and brush density. When you remove the dry brushes from the drying rack or pick them up from the towel, I like to work them into the palm of my hand in a circular motion 1-2 times to bring the softness and/ or fluffiness back into the brush.

Today, I excitedly went to Ulta at first to get the Game Of Thrones collab with Makeup Revolution.  I am still very excited to pick up the “Mother of Dragons Forever” and “Winter is Coming” eyeshadow palettes. However, it appears I have to wait until they get into the stores within a week. I am a Diamond member with Ulta so I like to get my points and rewards. 
No problem, I went into the Makeup Revolution aisle to see what other goodies I can find since I know that there were some other new releases.  
I decided to try the water activated graphic liners. There were 3 variations of palettes with 4 colors, priced at $8USD each. I have always loved how budget friendly this brand is. 
When I got home, I got right to testing it out and color swatches. Here are my thoughts that I hope you will find helpful: 
Initial impression when opening the box: I wish that the detail brush it came with more closely matched what was on the box. The brush that it came with did not have an actual pointed head which made it hard to do precise lines for a graphic liner. If you have a liner detail brush or something similar even if it is an art brush, I suggest using that.  
​I used tap water when initially testing these out because that is how most people will use them.  However, there are other products you can use that can help with setting and application such as mixing medium  and setting spray. 
​Hardest to apply: Yellow (that can be typical with many brands, so I do not hold this against them.) 
Easiest to apply and smoothest application: Red and Green (Yay! That means they will be great for Christmas). Red and Green also has a great color payoff. 
Hardest to pull color from: Blue and yellow. 
Hardest to clean/remove: Green (photo below- look in the circled area.) Products used to try and clean off: first water, then witch hazel, and when that still didn’t work, I used M.A.C. cleanse off oil. 

​Suggestions to remedy that (depending on how much you plan to use): using products beforehand such as Mehron Barrier Spray.
I find that when I do highly pigmented, special effects type makeup, and body paints, that it does help either mitigate or greatly reduce the the pigments from setting in the skin. I used the barrier spray before applying my She Hulk makeup look and that was how I was able to clean it off easily and not have the green pigments set in my skin for the next few days. 

Overall, I do feel that you are getting what you pay for when it comes to this product.  It is a budget friendly product and good for wanting to try water activated liners as a beginner or if you are on the fence about using them. Water activated liners can be a lot of fun to use and be creative with. Beauty may be costly, but it doesn't have to be. You can employ a myriad of tips and tricks that I have also used when saving money and some I still use. Most, if not all, of these inexpensive beauty hacks, are either free or cost very little!

1. Use Baby Oil as a makeup remover: If you wear makeup, you can remove it with Baby Oil. You might never switch since it works rather well and is super budget-friendly. 
2. DIY organic facemask: If you do not like putting a plethora of chemicals on your face, then this hack will save your life. Mix fresh fruits, vegetables, honey, oils, coffee grounds, sugar and more for your mask and put it on your face for 15 to 20 minutes. Then rinse with lukewarm water for a fresh glow on your face. Different ingredients can do different things for your skin. Be sure to do your research to see which ingredients will help you meet your skin goals. 
3. Drugstore products suffice: You don't always have to be using high-end beauty products for a long-lasting makeup look. Most drugstore products, work almost the same and can save you tons of money. Drugstores such as Walgreens have given more access to good beauty products. Best drugstore makeup include: NYX and E.L.F.
4. Make Drugstore foundation look high-end: There are a number of ways that you can make your inexpensive foundation look flawless on your skin. On a clean face, you can use witch hazel as a toner, be sure to moisturize, use one primer (such as NYX The Marsh Mellow Primer). Let that set for a few minutes, apply light amount of foundation, then lightly apply translucent powder primarily under the eyes. Want to turn your foundation into tinted moisturizer (light coverage)? add moisturizer to your foundation and mix well (works well especially if your moisturizer is lightweight). 
5. Basic DIY body scrub:  Here’s how you can make yourself an organic DIY body scrub; take coffee grounds, or sugar, 1-2 drops of essential oil for scent if you prefer, and then pour the required amount of olive oil or baby oil over it. Mix well, and voila! your body scrub is ready.
6. Use lipstick as blush and eyeshadow:
It has been a practice for centuries, for women to use lipsticks on their cheeks and a little bit on the eyes. You can just use the lipstick as both and be on your way. 
7. Do your own manicure and pedicure: Manicures and pedicures can add up to a lot if you are trying to save money. You could do both at home by using a few items that are available at your home. These items include: oils, lotions, hand cream, nail file, and nail paints. You can look put together all the time without spending much money. Other items that you can purchase for a good mani/ pedi: cuticle trimmer and buffing block. 
8. Less is more: When it comes to skincare, less is more. You don’t need hundreds of products. All you need is a moisturizer (bonus if it includes SPF), witch hazel, and a cleanser to keep your skin clear.
9. Make your own lash serum: Save your pennies and apply castor, coconut oil, and opened vitamin E capsules. Mix well, and apply to your lashes with a spoolie to help with growth.
10. Best low cost mascaras: Maybelline Great Lash and Essence Lash Princess - both are on average about $5 each and do an excellent job.

In my makeup collection I have many different brands of glitter gel makeup from loved companies such as Colourpop , Tattoo Junkee, and others. I LOVE using glitter. I feel like it is, fun, uplifting, and brings cheer. One thing that I noticed is that there are not that many glitter options where the glitter is a little more on the subtle and finer side. All of the glitter that I own in way of makeup,  is always more on the chunky side. Also most times, hard to remove. So I figured I wanted to try and make something that is good for those who love the "less is more" approach and those who want the option of something a bit more fine grade. Alas! here is Spell Sparkle Glitter Gel in colors "Crit" (Red), "Paladin" (Bright Gold), and "Initiative" (Bright Silver).

There I was watching Netflix in the background while working, when I noticed a new Docuseries called "Broken". I LOVE documentaries and docuseries shows, so I was intrigued. First episode was about counterfeit cosmetics. If you have not seen this episode and you are a beauty enthusiast, you should.
With my clients, co-models, and students, I have always shared awareness about purchasing "knock-off" products. You never know what ingredients and chemicals are in them and how your skin might react. There are also high risks of infections and injuries that can permanently damage your skin, cause disfigurement, infertility, and other medical conditions.
Since the official beginning of the beauty industry, it has always been successful. People have been wearing makeup for thousands of years. In the beginning, it was used for special occasions, ceremonies, and status. People want to look good, people like to feel good, people like to feel empowered, people love to be creative, and have fun.  Makeup has given people of all genders the ability to do and have those things. The makeup industry has become a huge multi-billion dollar industry and will continue to grow. Aside from counterfeit cosmetics, one thing that has also become a big business has been "dupes". Dupes are a less expensive/imitation alternative to the high end brands. Just to be clear, there are perfectly safe companies who create dupes or similar products that very closely resemble much loved designer products such as Chanel, Tom Ford, and Dior. There are people who simply cannot afford $25 for a lipstick or $85 for an eye shadow palette or foundation. Therefore, these companies create products with the thought in mind that they just want to put out a more affordable product. Which is perfectly fine. The budget conscious has just as much a right to look and feel good as anyone else. As long as the dupe creating company uses at least some different variation of ingredients and does not give the colors and themes the same name, there is no law that says a company cannot have the same raw umber colored eye shadow as Chanel. Creating an imitation of an item, is not a violation of intellectual property laws. Creating a product with subpar or dangerous ingredients and posing it as the "real deal" is illegal and dangerous.
Counterfeit makeup is created by companies who manufacture cosmetics in clandestine facilities. They manufacture makeup with dangerous chemicals such as urine, industrial chemicals that are used in construction, arsenic, beryllium, lead, and other dangerous chemicals.   Most of the companies that sell counterfeit products are sold online on sites such as Wish.com. or some street vendors (not all).  There are trusted sources and independent sellers to purchase products from, but at the end of the day it is up to the consumer to be educated. If you are unsure about the selling source, then your safest bet is to buy direct from the company website or from third party reputable sellers such as Sephora or Ulta.
